Georgian Academy of Sciences

I.S. Beritashvili Institute of Physiology

I.S. Beritashvili Institute of Physiology, Georgian Academy of Sciences was founded by outstanding scientist, academician Ivan Beritashvili in 1935. Institute was included into the structure of Georgian Academy of Sciences in 1941.

Main scientific topic:

Integrative activity of the brain in norm and pathology, research of its infringements and ways of correction.

Scientific problems:

- Systemic-molecular mechanisms of organization of memory and learning, their infringements and search of ways of correction.

- Experimental study of functional asymmetry of the brain hemispheres and its diagnostic value.

- Neurobiological mechanisms of Sleep-Wakefulness cycle, study of some psycho-neurological diseases connected to infringements of this cycle and the ways of their correction.

- Systemic-hierarchical organization of a brain and study of its morpho-functional bases in norm and pathology.

- Revealing of neurobiological bases of drug abuse development and the means of its correction

- Mechanisms of cerebral blood flow regulation, revealing of ways of prevention and correction of their infringements.

Director Teimuraz Naneishvili - Doctor of Biol. Sci. (Human and Animal Physiology).
