In 1966 defended thesis for a candidate's degree on the theme: "Fauna and stratigraphy of Lower Jurassic deposits of Dzirula massif".
In 1993 defended thesis for a doctor's degree on the theme:"Stratigraphy of Lower Jurassic and Aalenian deposits of Georgia".
The sphere of scientific activity in Paleontology and Stratigraphy of the Jurassic deposits of Alpine folded line.
He is a director of A.Janelidze Institute of Geology of Georgian Academy of Sciences, vice-chairman of the Soviet of awarding scientific degrees, vice-chairman of National Committee of Geologists of Georgia and a member of commission of interdepartmental stratigraphic committee.
