Date of foundation:
Institute was founded on February 8, 1971 on the basis of the biochemical laboratory, entering the Academy of Sciences since 1956.

Main scientific directions:
Plant genome organization and function, detection of refined mechanisms of nitrogen metabolism in plants, secondary bioactive substances, biochemical mechanisms of environment purification from organic pollutants, obtaining of mutants, fusants and transformants having practical importance, from plants and microorganisms.

Director:
George Kvesitadze - Academician of Georgian Academy of Sciences, doctor of biological sciences, professor, honorable member of Science, Education and Industry International Academy (USA). Member of the editorial board of 2 international, 2 Russian and 2 Georgian scientific journals.
