Georgian Academy of Sciences Batumi Botanical Gardens - Batumi, Batumi Botanical Gardens of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, 384533, Makhinjauri - Batumi Botanical Gardens was founded in 1912, November 3rd. Since 1950 it is in the system of the Georgian Academy of Sciences. - The research work of the Batumi Botanical Gardens is carried out in accordance with
the programme of fundamental investigations of the Georgian Academy of Sciences
"Study of Agrobiological Resources and their Rational Using". - The director of the Batumi Botanical Gardens, Vano Papunidze is the head of the Botanical Gardens since 1989. He is the doctor of biological sciences, professor, academician of the Georgian Ecological Academy of Sciences, head of the introduction and local flora department. Under his leadership two scientific research programmes are being developed. He is elected as a member of the programme of the Russian Academy of Sciences council "Problems of Forestry", of the Georgian National Committee UNESCO programme "Man and Biosphere", of Eurasian and Transcaucasian Botanical Gardens association and Botanical society. He is the member of specialized council of Tbilisi Institute of Mountain Forestry and Georgian Ecological Academy of Sciences. He is the author of 70 scientific works, among which there are 8 monographs. He is rewarded Honoured Forester of Georgian Republic. He is the scientific adviser of three post-graduates and one competitor for scientific degree. Has wive and three children, two grandchildren. The Batumi Botanical Gardens has periodical of scientific works - "Bulletin of Batumi Botanical Gardens". To prepare scientific stuff on the base of the act N93 December 2, 1995 the Presidium
of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, post-graduate course in the speciality of
"Botany" (030004) was opened. A significant part of work is done by the Batumi Botanical Gardens to implant the results of scientific researches into national economy. It makes propaganda of scientific achievements and knowledge and makes great contribution in raising the qualification of young scientists.
