Giorgi Totibadze

Corresponding member of Georgian Academy of Sciences

Mr. Giorgi Totibadze was born in 1928, October, 29 in teachers` family. In 1947 finished Tbilisi No7 men's school with gold medal. In 1953 graduated with honours the Tbilisi Academy of Arts and started working as a teacher at the Department of Drawing. At this Academy, in 1957 he postgraduated the course of Painting and proceeded teaching at the Department of Painting.
In 1971 he became a Professor of Painting and in 1972-82 Mr. G. Totibadze was the Rector of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. In 1976 he was elected to the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR as a corresponding Member.
Mr. G. Totibadze is now the head of personal Painting Artistic Studio of Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and the chairman of Methodics Council.
From 1953 exibits his works within republic and abroad. For this activities Mr. G. Totibadze was awarded a title of "People's Artist of Georgia", and rewarded wiht an order of "Friendship among Peoples".
In 1986 at the First Trang-Caucasian Biennale he got the first prise and gold medal for his picture "Mravalzhamieri". In 1997 was elected to the Academy of Sciences of Georgia as a corresponding member, in 1995- to the Academy of Fine Arts of Russia.

Mr. Totibadze's works coloured album was published by "Sabtchota Khelovneba" (Soviet Art) Publishing House. Author - Professor Levan Rcheulishvili. Another coloured album was published in Moscow, autor - Lydia Zlatkevich. Leter, in Tbilisi, Lydia Zlatkevich wrote a book about Giorgi Totibadze's life and art. which was published by "Sakartvelo" Publishing House - was also published a booklet with coloured illustrations "Giorgi Totibadze, author Leila Tabukashvili, with its text in Georgian, Russian and English.
