Merab Merabishvili

Date of birth: July 6, 1931

His father, Konstantine Merabishvili, the Professor of Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and a member of the Academy of Fine Arts of Russia was a celebrated sculptor, the autor of Rustaveli's monyment in Tbilisi. His works are well-known in Georgia and abroad.
His mother - Sophio Merabishvili.

In 1955 Mr. Merab Merabishvili graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, the department of Sculpture and 1995 - the post- graduate course of the Academy of Arts.
Since 1961 had been teaching drawing at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts. Now is the Head of Drawing Department. Is a Professor and in 1973 was elected as a Member-Correspondent of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR (Russia) and 1988 - as a Member of this Academy. In 1996 Mr. M. Merabishvili was elected as a Member of the Academy of Sciences of Georgia. He is the author of 23 monuments: A.Griboedov's in Tbilisi, equestrian statue of King Erekle in Telavi, G.Dimitrov's monument in Moscow, Shota Rustaveli's in Hungary, Kegemet, P.Bagration's equestrian statue in Tbilisi, I.Mosashvili's in Tbilisi.

Portraits: "As Actress D.Chichinadze", "An Artist D.Lordkipanidze", "I.Nasidze", "Academician E. Kharadze" and many others. M. Merabishvili is greating now a monument of a hero General P.Bagrationi for the sity of Moscow.
