Boris Kurashvili

He was born January 13, 1912, Georgian, Directory Adviser of the Institute of Zoology of the Georgian Academy of Sciences(1989), Merited Scientist of the Republic of Georgia (1966), Doctor of Sciences (Biology) (1995), Corresponding member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (1979), Academician of the Georgian Academy of Medical and Biological Sciences (1994), Academician of the Georgian Academy of Ecological Sciences (1995),Honoured Academician of the Georgian Academy of Preventive Medicine and Man Ecology(1995), Academician of the Egrisi Scientific Academy (Georgia) (1996), professor (1956), State Prize Laureate of the Republic of Georgia (1985), over 60 years B. Kurashvili have been engaged in Biological and Parasitological research and his works are well-known both in Georgia and abroad.
He went through a big scientific school under the famous scientist, Academician Konstantin Skrjabin. In 1995 B. Kurashvili was awarded a professor degree of the George Soros International Scientific Fund. His name entered the American reference book "Who is Who in the World", edition 12 (1995), and he is a nominee of Dictionary of International Biography, published in Cambridge, England.Research results of Kurashvili works are represented in national and
foreign literature.He is author of more than 200 scientific works, among them 14 monographs.
B. Kurashvili's scientific research covers three directions: Ecological and Faunistic research, experimental research and research in general Biology. The last sphere covers issues regarding host-parasite phylogenesis and ecology, their interrelations, specificity of parasites, study of divergence of helminths features in ontogenesis, changebility of microelements content in animal tissues under helminthosis. B. Kurashvili is a founder of biological and helminthological scientific
school in Georgia. For these efforts in promoting the parasitological science B. Kurashvili was elected Honoured Member of many scientific societies, namely the Society of Parasitologist of the Academy of Sciences of Czechoslovskia, Bulgaria and the Ukraine, Society of Helminthologists of Russian Academy of Sciences. Besides he is Chairman of the Society of Parasitologists of the Georgian Academy of Sciences from the very year of its foundation (1958). B. Kurashvili is a good organiser of Science. From 1947 to 1989 he headed the Department of Parasitology in the Institute of Zoology, and he heads it again from 1995. Begining from 1964 for the space of 25 years
he was Director of the Institute of Zoology, while beginning from 1989 he is Directory adviser of this Institute Kurashvili took part in World 2  and is President of Internetional Foundation of Veterans of Georgia. Some of B. Kurashvili's works are devoted to problems of protection and
rational use of animal world, pollution of reservoirs and soil. One of his works (with a co-author) "Pollution of Reservoirsand Soil and its Control" (1991) was given the 3rd prize of the Competition organized by the Tbilisi Committee of Enveronmental Protection (1993).
