Date of Foundation:
From 1945 till 1964 the Institute was under the subordination of the Georgian Academy of Science. From 1964 till 1991 - under the subordination of the State committee of Forest Management of the USSR. Since 1991 - under the subordination of the Georgian Academy of Science.

Main Scientific Directions:
Elaboration of scientific basis of forest regeneration and utilisation, investigation of socio-ecological functions of the forests and their protection from harmful irganisms and deseases.

Director:
Giorgi Gigauri, Doctor of Science, professor, Member of the Georgian Academy of Science, Academician. He was decorated by an order of the Badge of Honour and order of glory.
