R.Dvali Institute of Machine Mechanics Project: Reduction of petroleum expenditures in engines with variable compression degreeAutomobile park of our planet contains hundred millions automobiles, for which operation billions tons of very expensive resources of petroleum are spent. Presently on motor transport basically are used engines working on petrol and diesel fuel, which data depend on outcome of processes coming in cylinders working capacities. Besides other factors the large influence for this process makes range of compression degree, remaining constantly unchanged. In engines working on petroleum, the range of compression degree is less then the optimum measure and is limited with detonation of a consumed mix. In diesel engines compression degree is over the optimum measure and its reduction complicates the process of starting the engine up. That is ascertained, that under condition of a constant compression degree the fuel expenditures are minimal with maximal work loading, and with reduction of loading the deterioration of process of internal combustion takes place, due to what the charge of consumed fuel is increased, that causes amplification of toxic effect. Naturally, that breeds ecological problems. When using automobiles with engines of variable compression degree there is created an opportunity to raise this measure at partial loading, what sharply reduces the fuel operational charge. Since the operation of the automobile occurs at a varying mode, the use of the mentioned engines is economically justified. The fact, that the research works are conducted already some decades in institutes of America, England, France, Germany, Poland and others of the technically advanced countries also confirms benefits of using of these engines. We know, that in these countries there are created some experimental engines of internal combustion which however due to different reasons have not found application for motor transport yet. Here in Georgia, too, at Institute of Machines Mechanics there were carried out researches for creation of automobile engine with a variable compression degree. The experimental sets of the examined engine are created. According to the project, constructive change demands just the cover of the block of the serial engine, which practically does not require any large changes of production process. Working mechanism: change of compression degree occurs by pneumatic shift automatically, which basically reacts to a difference of pressure in an entering collector and atmospheric pressure. At the maximal loading the engine will have normal degree of compression, and together with reduction of loading the measure of compression degree is automatically increased; accordingly, the process of combustion in working volume is improved at partial loading, what is a strong basis of the economic fuel spending. Preliminary executed calculations enable to reduce on 40-50% fuel expenditure.
