Data Bank of Georgian Folklore
The Data Bank was created at the Central Archive of Georgian Folklore in 1996. The project was financed by the support of Open Society Georgian Foundation. Since 01.01.1997 the project is financed by the Grants of Georgian Academy of Sciences.
The author of the structure of Data Basis is Dr. Elguja Dadunashvili.
The author of computerizing program is Rati Skhirtladze.
The following members take part in carrying out the project: Prof. Jondo Bardavelidze, Prof. Pikria Zandukeli, Prof. Rusudan Cholokashvili, Prof. Amiran Arabuli, Dr. Eka Chkheidze, Makvala Kochlavashvili, Nino Dolidze, Darejan Toloraia, Tsiuri Mgebrishvili.
The Bank represents the automatic mean of description and systematization of archive folklore materials.
It guarantees the description of archive folklore materials and sorting out the information existed in the Bank by 26 characteristic signs of the folklore texts. The information can be filtered by one, as well as by several signs at the same time.
The Bank gives an opportunity to solve the problem of exploitation and systematization of great practical material necessary for empirical research. It can be used to establish such general peculiarity of the repertoire that defines it as the peculiarity of structure. It can be fixed in suitable quantitative signs. Such are for example: the genre consistence of the repertoire; geography and intensity of spreading of genre, sub-genre, plot, motif or the separate folklore example in the concrete historic period and etc.
Description and systematization of the material began from 01.01.1997. Nowadays the base includes 14000 records. It is supposed that by 1998 the number of the records can be increased up to 15 000 unit of folklore texts.
